Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know when I should seek help?

It is best to ask for help even if you are not sure your problem is big enough to need counseling. I can help you figure out what might be going on and what you could do about it. There are many different signs that might tell you that you should try counseling. A few of these are:

  • Feeling unhappy for no reason
  • Not being satisfied with your life
  • Having trouble making decisions
  • Having trouble setting or reaching goals
  • Being tired for no reason
  • Feeling hopeless
  • Changes in sleeping or eating
  • Acting in ways that you don’t like
  • Acting in ways that get you in trouble
  • Problems with alcohol or drugs
  • Relationship problems
  • Having trouble at work
  • Thinking about death a lot or thinking of hurting yourself

How long will I be in therapy?

What is more important to consider is what your goals are for therapy. If you are experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety and are looking for skills to help you cope and function better, therapy might be relatively short-term.

Some people, however, are more concerned with resolving past conflicts, learning how to deal with specific situations in their lives, or even working through traumatic events.

As you go through therapy, sometimes unexpected, unresolved issues can arise, which might prolong your treatment.

How will I know when I am done?

When the presenting problems that brought you to therapy in the first place have been resolved is usually a good indication that it could be time to end therapy. I will review with you the goals you set out to achieve at the onset of therapy. Did you achieve them? Are there secondary goals that still need to be worked on? Are you satisfied with what you’ve accomplished? Are there any other goals you still might want to achieve?

I will review the skills you’ve acquired to overcome any future problems that might arise.

I will discuss your level of awareness in recognizing when you might need to return to therapy. How will you know? What are the signs? By discussing these questions, you’ll have a better grasp of the issue and seek help before you are in crisis.

Finally, I want to help you process the end of therapy. Knowing this relationship is coming to an end can be difficult for some. Allowing this process to take place will provide you with the proper closure. It’s a great opportunity to see how far you’ve come, what you can still work on independently and the resources available to you.

Will insurance cover my sessions?

I am a preferred provider with Premera Blue Cross, Regence, First Choice Health Network and Group Health Cooperative. All insurance claims are submitted the same day of service. Invoices and receipts for reimbursement are available via email.

When can I start to see improvement in my relationship?

Typically clients see results within 5-7 sessions. This is greatly improved when clients are open, honest and allow themselves to be vulnerable with each other.

How long are the counseling sessions?

Each session is 50 minutes in length.

What is your cancellation policy?

I ask that you provide 24 hours advance notice for cancellations.

Do you see same sex couples?

Yes, I provide couples counseling and marriage counseling to same sex couples.
